Osteopathy and Infants

baby3Osteopaths use a wide variety of gentle techniques which can optimize your baby’s health.  Newborn babies experience a degree of trauma during the birthing process.  Difficult or long labors, inducements and forceps deliveries may cause more stress.  Such traumas may result in soft tissue tension and restrictions in the cranial bones of the skull and/or other musculoskeletal dysfunctions.  Gentle osteopathic techniques can be used to correct any muscular tightness or joint restrictions that could be impacting on your baby’s health.  Treatment may also reduce the risk of problems arising later in life (e.g. scoliosis).

baby2Common osteopathic conditions that osteopaths can assist with include:
  • Strains or injuries sustained during the birthing process
  • Difficulty in turning head to both sides
  • Colic
  • Reflux
  • Persistent vomiting
  • Sleeping difficulties
  • Feeding difficulties
  • Ear infections
  • Incessant crying
  • Rolling to one side only
